Coronavirus has hit Latin America and the Caribbean hard.
Recent data out of the Pan American Health Organization and Johns Hopkins University are incredibly heartbreaking. Latin America’s two most populous nations, Brazil and Mexico, have seen the highest number of deaths in the region. Brazil is the second worst hit country in the world with more than 81,000 deaths reported. Mexico has over 40,000 deaths and Peru, also badly hit, has more than 13,000 confirmed deaths. The number of deaths in Brazil, Mexico and Peru has been doubling roughly every three to four weeks.
The pandemic, coupled with huge economic disparities, insufficient infrastructure, and significant portions of the population living day-to-day, has created a tragic situation in our region.
While we grieve and mourn at the toll the virus is taking in our region and pray for relief, we know that a good and merciful God is still at work. We are privileged to minister alongside the local church and to work with them to meet the needs of the people in our region.
Wherever you are in the world, we invite you to join with us in prayer and support the work of the Church in Latin America and the Caribbean.
